Job Description
Working in an Accident & Emergency (A&E) department is unlike any other environment in healthcare. It’s fast, unpredictable, and at times intense—but it’s also one of the most meaningful places to make a difference. As a Patient Care Assistant (PCA), you become an essential support system for both patients and medical staff, helping ensure that care is delivered smoothly and compassionately.
In this role, your day will revolve around attending to patients who may arrive in urgent or distressing situations. You’ll be one of the first points of contact, helping patients feel seen, heard, and cared for during stressful moments. Whether it’s assisting someone onto a wheelchair, guiding them through the triage process, or simply responding quickly to their needs, your presence will matter more than you realize.
You will work closely with nurses and doctors, supporting them by preparing necessary documents, coordinating patient movement for lab tests or imaging, and ensuring that all records are properly filled and organized. Accuracy is important—small details like patient identification and documentation can make a big difference in emergency care.
Another key part of your role will involve mobility assistance. You’ll help patients move safely within the hospital, whether it’s transferring them between beds, assisting with walking, or ensuring they are comfortable while waiting for treatment. Alongside this, you’ll also handle basic administrative tasks such as filing records, completing triage documentation, and ensuring billing forms are properly submitted.
This role requires both energy and empathy. The A&E department can be busy, but it also offers a strong sense of purpose. Every shift brings new challenges, new faces, and opportunities to help people when they need it most.
